1).Foster conversations among African social movement leaders on the current global political moment and create a common African Movement position on priority intersecting issues.
2). Provide a platform for solidarity, collaboration, experience sharing, learning exchanges, and joint actions and strengthen the African Social Movements network.
3). Promote dialogue between movement leaders and funders to build trust for improved funding for movements.
4). Identify common challenges and amplify voices of communities working on social justice.
The African Climate Justice Movement (ACJM) supported 4 Movement leaders and actors from East, South, and West Africa and one francophone with funding to attend and participate at the BARAZA in Accra. One of the movement advisors for West Africa, who is resident in Accra, also participated at the BARAZA.
The BARAZA provided a platform for the Movement actors to share experiences with other Movement actors from across Africa to cross learn diverse engagement, agitation, lobbying, policy reforming, and advocacy approaches, and best practices in movement organizing, building, resource mobilization and milestone achievements.
The ACJM actors were able to develop new partnerships with potential for possible collaborations. This includes discussions with movementent funders on funding and notification of funding calls.
One other major learnings was resource mobilization for movements through investments and alternative indigenous funding models.
The ACJM actors have been able to step down these learnings and key takeaways to ACJM Movement Committee members and are hoping to do the same with all movement actors within the ACJM at a future general assembly.
